Benchmark Metals Inc. (TSX-V:BNCH, OTCQX:BNCHF) said it has signed a new agreement with the Tahltan Central Government to collaborate on efforts to advance Benchmark’s flagship Lawyers project in British Columbia.
The Tahltan Central Government (TCG) advocates for Tahltan inherent aboriginal rights and title, and protects the eco-systems and natural resources of Tahltan traditional territory.
Benchmark and the TCG will work together to develop collaborative processes to support the constructive engagement of the TCG in Benchmark's exploration program at the Lawyers gold-silver project and ensure the TCG can meaningfully participate in all aspects of the exploration program and the associated economic benefits, according to a release.

In a statement, Benchmark called the agreement an “important step” towards developing a strong collaborative relationship with TCG and advancing Benchmark's gold-silver project.
“The agreement is a key component towards social license for mine permitting and is intended to form the basis of a larger agreement when the project advances towards regulatory approvals for an operational mine,” the company said.
“Benchmark will work constructively with First Nations and advance the project in a sustainable manner that provides social and economic opportunities.”
Benchmark told investors that the agreement is a major achievement to advance Lawyers towards production. The firm said it will use First Nations talent for employment and consultancy work to meet its near-term objectives, including a drilling program, preliminary economic assessment and feasibility study, which is anticipated to be completed by 2023.
Lawyers is road accessible and located within the Golden Horseshoe area of north-central British Columbia, Canada.
