GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LSE:GSK)'s cervical cancer drug has been approved in China as a two-dose vaccine as protection against two forms of the human papillomavirus that can cause the disease.
The country’s National Medical Products Administration has given the green light for Cervarix to be given to girls aged nine to 14.
In 2020, there were 110,00 new cases of cervical cancer in China and 59,000 deaths.
It is hoped that drugs such as GSK’s will help to significantly lower those numbers.
