Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) founder Jack Dorsey has stepped down from the microblogging platform's board of directors as Elon Musk renewed his pursuit of a takeover.
Dorsey had already distanced himself from the social media platform he co-founded, resigning as Twitter chief executive last year to focus on Block Inc (NYSE:SQ), formerly known as Square.
Twitter said at the time that former chief executive Dorsey would remain on the board "until his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders".
At the shareholder meeting on Wednesday, Twitter's board also voted to get rid of board member and Musk ally Egon Durban, CEO of private equity firm Silver Lake.
As a board member since the company's founding, Dorsey's exit marks the end of an era for the company.
Despite reports that he may return to the micro-blogging platform after Musk's US$44bn takeover, Dorsey has categorically denied he will ever be Twitter's CEO again.
Twitter shares were given a boost after hours on Wednesday after Musk revised the financing plan for his US$44bn purchase.
