LSE's RNS news feed leaves investors in dark for over an hour

Results from companies large and small were delayed by over an hour and a half

Investors were in the dark on Wednesday morning as the London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LSE:LSEG) regulatory news service data feed experienced technical issues.

Results from companies large and small were delayed by over an hour and a half and on some websites were still not appearing by late morning.

Delayed releases and trading statements included from FTSE 100 companies such as Ocado, SSE, Intertek and Pets at Home, and small caps including Synairgen and Norman Broadbent, which were not made available until around 8.30am London time when the feed was restored, having been expected at 7am BST.

An LSEG spokesperson told Proactive: "London Stock Exchange experienced a technical issue with its RNS feed this morning, which led to a number of announcements being held in a queue. The issue has been resolved and all announcements have been distributed and are appearing with the correct timestamp."

The current RNS service, which evolved from the twice-weekly list of market prices from Jonathan’s Coffee House in the late 17th century and the tickertape service of the 1830s, processes an estimated 350,000 announcements each year, with the LSE saying it is the source of more than three-quarters of all regulatory and potentially price-sensitive UK company announcements.

RNS is "widely recognised by the investment community for its stable and secure web-based input system", the company says on its website, adding that it "is proud of its track record of service excellence, reliability and commitment to continuous improvement".

"Releasing announcements through RNS ensures company information is distributed immediately and accurately," it also claims.

LSEG has been contacted for comment on the problems.
