Genflow Biosciences PLC (LSE:GENF) told investors it has filed international patent applications related to variants of Sirtuin-6 (SIRT 6) and the gene variant's therapeutic uses in the regulation of aging and for the treatment and prevention of age-related diseases.
The patents applications are filed in the US under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), it noted.
Genflow believes that the invention set out in the patent application has the potential to enhance both health-span and, possibly, life expectancy.
The SIRT 6 gene variant found in centenarians (people older than 100 years) has demonstrated significant capabilities in epigenetic tissue rejuvenation and therefore, constitutes an excellent target to prevent and treat age-related diseases, Genflow highlighted.

Filing an international patent under the PCT allows Genflow to seek patent protection for the relevant invention simultaneously in a large number of countries, whilst reducing administration and in turn lowering costs.
It adds to previously filed patents for a method of administration and delivery of the company's product into humans and dogs, using Genflow's lead compound, GF-1002, which is described as a “recombinant self-complementary adeno-associated virus” or AAV.
