Endeavour Mining PLC (LSE:EDV, TSX:EDV, OTCQX:EDVMF), the largest gold producer in West Africa, has published its 2021 sustainability report with key environmental, social and governance (ESG) highlights.
The company said its total economic contribution to host countries doubled over the prior year to U$2.0bn. Around 80% of its total procurement was in-country, while 95% of its workforce, and almost half of its senior operational management, are nationals.
“2021 was a transformational year for Endeavour as we became West Africa’s leading gold producer,” said president and chief executive Sebastien de Montessus. “Our continued growth has allowed us to leverage our scale to build an ambitious and impactful ESG strategy.”
Last year, Endeavour announced its long-term ambition to be net zero by 2050 and its medium-term target of reducing emissions by 30% by 2030.
Its Scope 1 and 2 emissions jumped 85% in 2021 from 2020 as the group’s gold production grew 69% following the addition of the Wahgnion and Sabodala-Massawa mines and an increase in output from Mana and Houndé operations.
Endeavour said it expects to finalise its decarbonisation strategy this year.
