St George Mining breaks ground at Paterson Project with diamond drill testing for copper and gold

“The targets being tested are high-priority areas coincident with favourable structural features seen in the data from gravity and airborne magnetic surveys completed by St George," says executive chair John Prineas.

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) has kicked-off a ‘substantial’ diamond core drilling program at its wholly-owned Paterson Project in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, targeting gold and copper mineralisation.

The program will consist of 18 holes drilled at two main target areas within a 35-kilometre-long prospective geological trend, similar in nature to other major previous base metal discoveries in the prolific region.

In particular, data from an airborne magnetic survey has been interpreted to show encouraging correlations with Rio Tinto’s major Winu copper-gold discovery – which holds a mineral resource of 608 million tonnes at 0.49% copper equivalent.

Survey data points to promising geology

“We are delighted to commence diamond drilling at the Paterson Project where our 2021 aircore reconnaissance drilling identified elevated levels of pathfinder elements for base metal and gold deposits,” St George executive chair John Prineas said.

“The targets being tested are high-priority areas coincident with favourable structural features seen in the data from gravity and airborne magnetic surveys completed by St George.

“While this exciting drill program is underway at the Paterson, we will complete further geophysical surveys at our Mt Alexander Project.

“These new seismic and EM (electromagnetic) surveys will assist in fine-tuning nickel-copper sulphide targets for the next drill program at Mt Alexander.

“We look forward to reporting further on these important field programs as results are received.”
