Moderna conducting monkeypox vaccine trials, report

Monkeypox is common in parts of Africa, but very rarely seen elsewhere

Pharmaceutical company Moderna Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) is testing potential vaccines against monkeypox, as the number of cases continues to rise in the UK and elsewhere.

Moderna is said to be conducting pre-clinical trials for a jab, according to Reuters.

Monkeypox is common in parts of Africa, but very rarely seen elsewhere until recently, with reported cases now in the UK, US and across Europe.

Symptoms are usually mild and typically last for anywhere between two to four weeks.

The World Health Organisation said there have been 131 confirmed cases and 106 further suspected cases outside of the countries where it usually spreads.
