Prospector Metals kicks off maiden drilling program at Toogood gold project in Newfoundland

The 2022 maiden drill program will include up to 2,600 meters of diamond drilling

Prospector Metals Corp said it has begun diamond drilling at two showings on its Toogood property, which encompasses 118 square kilometers of mineral claims on New World Island, Newfoundland.

The 2022 maiden drill program will include up to 2,600 meters (m) of diamond drilling, of which approximately 1,200m will be allocated towards the Quinlan showing, 1,000m to the Titan showing and up to 400m to test exploration targets in the vicinity.

Subject to additional induced polarization survey results, the current maiden drill program at Titan and Quinlan will aim to test the depth and strike extent of the known mineralization and mineralized structures at surface, the company said.

At Titan, six high-priority holes will be drilled perpendicular to the prevailing southwest trending mineralized structures to a depth of up to 150m. At Quinlan, another six high-priority holes will be drilled perpendicular to the prevailing west-northwest trending mineralized structures to a depth of up to 100m, the company said.

Additionally, four drill holes are being planned to test regional gold in soil targets 70m southeast and 230m southwest of the Titan showing.

The samples will be analyzed at Eastern Analytical in Springdale, Newfoundland, with assays expected for this summer.

"We are very excited to begin the maiden drill program at our fully permitted Toogood gold project in Newfoundland,” CEO Alex Heath said in a statement. “In addition, we have launched plans to advance exploration activities on our portfolio of projects in Quebec and Ontario. Backed by a strong technical team and track record of success, Prospector is well positioned for making a discovery in 2022."

Grab samples at the Titan showing have graded 291.47 grams per tonne (g/t), 168.46g/t, 181.97g/t, 30.75g/t, 29.85g/t and 11.11 g/t of gold. Stripping and detailed geological mapping and sampling have identified a 40m by 10m wide mineralized zone at Titan, the company said.

At Quinlan, assays of 229.88g/t, 43.07g/t, 19.09g/t, 13.1g/t, 10.79g/t, 5.60g/t, and 4.12g/t gold have been reported from grab samples of quartz vein material hosted in an altered felsic dike. However, due to the coarse and irregular nature of the known surface gold mineralization to date, the samples are not necessarily representative of mineralization hosted on the property, the company noted. Sampling has also identified a 200m by 15m wide mineralized zone, open to depth and concentrated along a north-northeast trending structure.
