ORAGIN Foods says subsidiary Future of Cheese's plant-based product line earns organic certification in US, Canada, EU

The certification allows Future of Cheese to expand into retail chains that have strict organic, non-GMO and sustainable policies on products they offer

ORAGIN Foods Inc. (TSX-V:OG, OTCQX:OGGFF) has said its subsidiary Future of Cheese Inc can now officially market its plant-based cheese products as organic in the US, Canada and the European Union (EU) after earning Organic Certification from Ecocert.

The certification also allows Future of Cheese to expand into retail chains that have strict organic, non-GMO and sustainable policies on products they offer.

Ecocert is an international organic certification organization based in France. Through Ecocert, the Future of Cheese products have been certified in accordance with the terms of the Canadian Organic Regime (CRO), the US-Canada Organic Equivalency Arrangement (USCOEA) and the European Union-Canada Organic Equivalency Arrangement (EUCOEA), according to a statement.

The entire supply chain is audited in the certification process, from the raw material to the finished product. Ecocert carries out at least one annual on-site inspection, supplemented by unannounced audits, and the audit reports have to be independently verified to certify organic products, the company said.

“This is a huge milestone for us and the shareholders of ORAGIN as it means that not only are our products recognized by an international regulatory body to be of the highest quality by using organic ingredients but also ensures the absence of GMO, chemical and synthetic ingredients, further proving our commitment to health, wellness and the protection of our environment,” Future of Cheese president Jen Wojtaszek said in a statement.

“Additionally, we have now been officially granted the green light to proudly market these claims in various international markets as we plan for our anticipated ecommerce launch,” she added.

Future of Cheese parent ORAGIN Foods is a Canadian multi-pronged food company, where food and beverage brands are developed, acquired, grown and commercialized through a consumer packaged goods division. The company also houses a retail division, which owns and operates one of Canada's leading natural and organic food retailers, Organic Garage.
