Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN) has made an encouraging start to the assessment of new tenure highly prospective for gold and base metals just to the west of its Perenjori Iron Project in Western Australia in an under-explored and under-appreciated greenstone belt.
The company has already completed an interpretation of aeromagnetic data and historic exploration results at Perenjori West, yielding 15 high-priority gold and base metal targets to be explored.
The project is within the West Yilgarn Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Province, host to the recently discovered Julimar PGE deposit.
Previous explorers focused on the acid volcanic portion of the geological sequence, targeting gold and volcanogenic-hosted massive sulphides (VMS) style base metal mineralisation.
Mixed results and a weak gold price at the time contributed to waning interest in the area, leaving multiple highly anomalous bulk leach extractable gold (BLEG) targets untested.
Exploration already underway
Surefire has begun the first phase of field reconnaissance on the tenement lease, with targets identified from aeromagnetic interpretations being prospected to validate the interpretation and directly sample the locations.
Historic gold anomalies are also being sampled to verify historic results, as surveys were disparate and used varying assaying techniques, making it difficult to directly compare and interpret collated results.
Surefire intends to undertake a wider surface geochemical sampling program to follow up on areas that return anomalous assays and aid in developing drill-testing plans.
