Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) food will be delivered by Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER) drivers at 20 different supermarket locations across the UK as part of a new deal.
Uber Eats, the food and takeaway delivery branch of the company, will deliver products ordered via Whoosh, the supermarket’s grocery ordering app.
Whoosh was set up last year to provide ‘instant’ delivery service from an initial 200 Tesco Express stores across the country.
Drivers for Uber Eats will initially service stores in Edinburgh, Bradford, Portsmouth, Norwich, St Albans and Letchworth.
Tesco hopes the partnership can help it reach its target of servicing 600 stores nationwide by the end of the year.
Fees will be higher on Uber Eats compared to Tesco’s traditional online grocery service.
"It's clear that the needs of businesses and consumers have been rapidly evolving in recent years and that trend is accelerating,” said Alex Troughton from Uber Ears UK, quoted in the BBC.
"This exciting new partnership will harness the best of Uber's technology to power superfast Tesco deliveries across the UK."
