Wizz Air passenger numbers soar 540% in April as travel rebounds

The load factor, which measures the percentage of available seats being filled, increased to 83.4% from 59.2%

Wizz Air Holdings PLC (AIM:WIZZ) reported a sharp rise in passenger numbers, load factor and capacity for April, as air travel continued to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The budget airline carried over 3.62mln passengers in April, a surge of 542% on the same month last year, with capacity jumping 355.7% to 4.34mln seats.

The load factor, which measures the percentage of available seats being filled, increased to 83.4% from 59.2%.

CO2 emissions in grams per passenger per kilometre were 24.7% lower than in April 2021 helped by the higher load factor.

The London-listed, central Europe-based airline continued to grow its network during April with the acquisition of two additional daily slot pairs from Vueling at London Luton Airport.

Wizz Air also launched its new base at Cardiff Airport, its fourth in the UK, with nine new routes to destinations across Europe and beyond.

Shares climbed 2.7% to 3,261p.
