Benchmark Holdings granted market authorisation for salmon farm treatment

Granting of the marketing authorisation variation also represents a step towards optimising the efficiency of the company's sea lice solution

Benchmark Holdings PLC (AIM:BMK) said it has been granted a “variation” to its marketing authorisation from the Norwegian Medicines Agency for Ectosan Vet, a sea lice treatment for salmon.

This enables the aquaculture biotechnology company to re-use treatment water for a second batch of fish, subject to the quality being to the satisfaction of the prescribing veterinarian.

According to a company statement, this means a producer will be able to treat a salmon farm more efficiently with a solution that is more than 99% effective.

Benchmark added that this method “promotes animal welfare, reduces mortality and protects the environment, driving sustainability in the industry”.

Granting of the marketing authorisation variation also represents a step towards optimising the efficiency of the company's sea lice solution, the London-listed company said.

"We are very pleased to have been granted a variation to the Marketing Authorisation from the Norwegian Medicines Agency,” said chief executive Trond Williksen. “This represents an important milestone for the company and for the industry.”
