Genflow Biosciences PLC (LSE:GENF) has entered a collaboration agreement with a company founded by one of the world leaders in cellular ageing.
It is teaming up with France’s Organips, headed by professor Jean Marc Lemaitre, to initially research the Sirtuin-6, or SIRT6 gene variant found in centenarians.
The pair will assess its potential use in treating a rare premature ageing condition called Werner Syndrome.
Specifically, researchers will carry out preclinical work on induced pluripotent stem cells to reprogramme WS liver organoids (artificial multicellular tissue) and make them young again. This is a prerequisite for future SIRT6 therapies.
“Reprogramming is one of the most exciting research areas within the longevity field and is attracting significant investment, with prominent deals in the sector attracting investment capital of over US$3bn last year,” said Genflow chief executive, Dr Eric Leire.
