BioVaxys Technology Corp has moved to expand patent coverage for its cancer vaccine platform by filing an international patent application through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the company announced.
The application would grant Vancouver-based BioVaxys' platform broad geographic market coverage outside the US for cervical cancer, according to a statement.
BioVaxys has an agreement with Procare Health, located in Barcelona, for clinical co-development of the BioVaxys’ cervical cancer vaccine for the EU market, the company said. The two companies will also be jointly conducting an upcoming EU Phase I clinical study of BioVaxys’ vaccine BVX-0918 in ovarian cancer.

BioVaxys has based its cancer vaccine platform on the immunological concept that modifying surface proteins, whether they are viral or tumor, with haptens makes them more visible to the immune system. The haptenization process essentially teaches a patient's immune system to recognize and make target proteins more visible, thereby deeming them foreign and stimulating a T-cell mediated immune response.
