Mako Gold poised to investigate 2-kilometre-long Korhogo gold anomaly with maiden RC drilling

“We are highly encouraged by these coincident anomalies as this validates our motivation for acquiring these permits and increases the chance of the company making another significant gold discovery," says MD Peter Ledwidge.

Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) has validated its acquisition of the Korhogo Project in Côte d’Ivoire with the discovery of a large, 2-kilometre-long gold anomaly, identified with geochemical surveys and confirmed with shallow auger drilling that returned up to 60 parts per billion gold.

The auger program also discovered several high-priority regional targets.

A maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program of 2,000 metres is expected to begin imminently to investigate the anomaly and determine the nature and tenor of the potential mineralisation.

The wholly-owned Korhogo Project consists of 296 square kilometres just 15-30 kilometres from Barrick Gold’s 4.9-million-ounce Tongon Gold Mine. Until this latest round of auger drilling, the project had no recorded drilling.

Location of Mako Gold projects, including the Korhogo Project, where a maiden RC drilling program will begin shortly.

Further exploration drilling has been planned for additional targets at the project, to be investigated after the initial anomaly has been tested.

“Pave the way” for drill testing

“We are pleased that the recently completed 11,000-metre auger drilling program has returned large gold anomalies which pave the way for the imminent start of a maiden RC drilling program at Korhogo,” Mako Gold managing director Peter Ledwidge said.

“The first target to be drilled is a 2-kilometre-long +20 parts per billion gold auger anomaly with high grade cores over 60 parts per billion gold, coincident with the faulted greenstone/ granite contact.

“We are highly encouraged by these coincident anomalies as this validates our motivation for acquiring these permits and increases the chance of the company making another significant gold discovery.”

Mako Gold says the flagship Napié Project is the company’s core focus, and expects to produce a maiden mineral resource estimate for the project in June 2022.
