Solis Minerals shows potential for large copper system at Mostazal Project in Chile

“Our geological interpretation indicates that the copper observed at surface, and in artisanal workings over a 10 square kilometre area, is an expression of a potentially much larger copper-bearing mineralised system at depth," says CEO.

Solis Minerals Ltd (TSX-V:SLMN, ASX:SLM) has received results from the first two holes drilled at the Mostazal Copper Project in Chile, showing potential for a large copper system.

Assays from two more holes from this first round of drilling are still pending, but notable results thus far include:

  • 30 metres at 0.12% copper from 10 metres, including 10 metres at 0.17% from 30 metres;
  • 2 metres at 0.76% from 136 metres;
  • 2 metres at 0.25% from 148 metres;
  • 4 metres at 1.06% from 218 metres;
  • 16 metres at 0.32% from 240 metres, including 2 metres at 0.68% from 244 metres;
  • 16 metres at 0.11% from 342 metres;
  • 2 metres at 0.48% from 446 metres and,
  • 4 metres at 0.52% from 470 metres.

Indicators point to large, deep system

“This first phase of drilling was primarily designed to test the type of mineralisation, as well as the preliminary lateral and vertical extent of copper mineralisation at Mostazal,” Solis Minerals CEO Jason Cubitt said.

“The first two holes encountered 'mantos' style disseminated sulphides, extending from surface to the end of the hole at a depth of 362 metres in hole 1, and from surface to at least 444 metres in hole 2.

“Our geological interpretation indicates that the copper observed at surface, and in artisanal workings over a 10 square kilometre area, is an expression of a potentially much larger copper-bearing mineralised system at depth.

“Analysis of the drill data, together with geological mapping, has identified several faults that crosscut and terminate mineralisation and others that control the emplacement of mineralisation.

“More fieldwork is in progress to analyse these structural controls on the emplacement of mineralisation and vector in on the interpreted high-grade source of copper.”

Solis intends to target high-grade structures within the broader copper manto mineralisation with the next phase of drilling, aided by information from a detailed surface structural mapping and deeper-penetrating geophysical survey already underway.
