Avalon GloboCare files 16 patent applications related to cellular therapies as company moves towards clinical trials

“Collectively, we believe each of these patents covers therapies and technologies that target large, addressable markets,” CEO David Jin told shareholders

Avalon GloboCare Corp (NASDAQ:AVCO) revealed that it has filed 16 patent applications related to novel cellular therapies and related technologies as the company moves towards clinical trials.

The company said the patents were filed with US Patent and Trademark Office, the China National Trademark Office, and under the Patent Cooperation Treaty covering 36 countries.

The patents were jointly developed with Avalon’s key strategic partners, including a top five-ranked US university, a leading education and research center in Europe, and a premier multi-national develop of cellular therapies specializing in the field of oncology, the company said.

Avalon said the patent applications cover three core patent families. The first is engineering and bio-manufacturing of novel chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) T-cells related to the mRNA-based Flash-CAR cellular therapy platform.

This innovation has been applied to Avalon’s AVA-011 CAR-T cell therapy candidate, which the company said is at the process development stage to generate cGMP-grade CAR-T cells for upcoming first-in-human clinical trials.

The second is soluble, antibody-like cytokine/chemokine decoy receptors derived using the QTY protein design. Avalon explained that potential applications of this therapy include mitigation of the “cytokine storm” associated with COVID-19 and cellular immunotherapy delivery, in addition to expanding the range of therapeutic targets addressable by CAR T-cell therapies.

Finally, the third patent area is novel s-layer coated emulsome technology (SLET)-derived fusion proteins intended for mucosal vaccine development, which Avalon said was designed to trigger robust protective immune responses at the predominant sites of pathogen infection.

“The SLET platform provides a ‘molecular GPS system’ to guide the trafficking and delivery of a payload to a targeted destination in the body,” the company said.

Avalon CEO David Jin said the patent applications were within the company’s core competencies in the areas of CAR-T, QTY protein design, and S-layer technologies and that they were timed to maximize the duration of the patents.

“Collectively, we believe each of these patents covers therapies and technologies that target large, addressable markets,” Jin told shareholders in a statement. “They are all supported by strong preclinical data as we rapidly advance towards first-in-human clinical trials.”

Avalon is a New Jersey-based clinical-stage bio-developer advancing exosome technologies and cellular therapies through its subsidiary structure with the unique integration of verticals including automated bioproduction and accelerated clinical development.
