Western Magnesium Corporation announced that it has received approval of the final engineering field inspections at its commercial pilot plant.
The company said that all inspections of the equipment were successful and that it has received the final acceptance paperwork.
In a statement, Western Magnesium said its commercial pilot plant was now just weeks away from commencing “green” magnesium production operations, with production expected to commence in late May 2022.

The company told shareholders that the pilot plant “serves as a prime example of how far technology has evolved in the decades since America outsourced the environmentally unfriendly process of producing critical minerals.”
Western Magnesium executive chairman Ed Lee added that the company was on the cusp of reintroducing magnesium production in America “in a way that hasn’t been seen before.”
“The approval of these inspections is instrumental in our ability to showcase our innovative 'green' solutions in the domestic production of magnesium metal and alloys,” Lee said in a release.
The company’s chief technology officer Paul Sauve said that approval of these inspections further demonstrated the competence of Western Magnesium’s engineering and construction teams.
“This work has taken a considerable effort and we are highly encouraged by what has been accomplished to date,” he said.
Based in Washington, Western Magnesium is working to produce low-cost, green, primary magnesium using a continuous silicothermic process.
