Aurumin kicks off RC drilling at Mt Palmer Project in Western Australia targeting lithium

Aurumin is drill testing pegmatites potentially prospective for lithium at the Vickers Find South B prospect of the Mt Palmer Project, looking to discover a viable lithium resource at the historically gold-focused project area.

Aurumin Ltd (ASX:AUN) has begun drilling designed to target lithium-bearing pegmatites at its wholly-owned Mt Palmer Project in Western Australia.

The company has planned between 1,000 metres and 2,500 metres of reverse circulation (RC) drilling for this program, expected to take about a week to complete with assays intended to be fast-tracked for delivery of results.

Aurumin is targeting the Vickers Find South B (VFSB) prospect with this round of drilling, which corresponds to pegmatites with prospective geology similar to the nearby Mt Holland lithium deposit.

Reconnaissance fieldwork in the area has confirmed the presence of pegmatites in historical drilling spoils, further reinforcing Aurumin’s decision to drill test the prospect.

About the Mt Palmer Project

Mt Palmer is a small, high-grade historical mining complex that was last commercially active in 1944 and produced 158,000 ounces of gold during its life of mine.

The area is considered prospective for lithium mineralisation given its proximity to Wesfarmer’s Mt Holland Lithium Project and the similarities between geology at both sites.

Exploration at Mt Palmer historically focused on gold mineralisation but interpretation of the drilling database points to multiple parallel pegmatite intersections of up to 50 metres in thickness that have yet to be assayed for lithium.

These pegmatites are what Aurumin is targeting at the VFSB prospect, seeking to unearth a commercially viable lithium resource.
