Carnavale Resources Ltd (ASX:CAV) has completed a second reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Kookynie Gold Project in Western Australia primarily targeting extensions to high-grade mineralisation.
Thirty RC holes for 5,210 metres have been completed at the newly discovered, shallow, high-grade gold lodes with a total of 21 holes at McTavish East prospect and nine at McTavish North.
Targeting extensions
At McTavish East 16 RC holes, two re-entries and three pre-collars were drilled targeting extensions to the high-grade zone along strike and at depth of previously released RC and aircore drilling results.
These previous results include:
- 16 metres at 20.92 g/t gold from 161 metres including 10 metres at 31.88 g/t;
- 4 metres at 31.1 g/t from 96 metres;
- 4 metres at 17.82 g/t from 78 metres including 2 metres at 33.55 g/t;
- 4 metres at 12.94 g/t from 126 metres including 2 metres at 23.67 g/t;
- 2 metres at 16.25 g/t from 54 metres; and
- 4 metres at 6.39 g/t from 114 metres including 1-metre at 23.30 g/t.
The nine holes at McTavish North represent the first RC exploration at this prospect and were following up previous high-grade aircore results.
Optimised program
“We are delighted to have completed the second RC program at the newly discovered Kookynie East prospect and the first RC holes at McTavish North," CEO Humphrey Hale said.
"The field team has reacted quickly to the geology and alteration encountered in the RC chips. As a result, we have been able to optimise the drilling program to intersect the mineralised structures efficiently and extend the structures down dip and along strike.”
All samples have been submitted to the laboratory with results expected in mid-June.
Close monitoring
The drill program was managed closely, with drill targets updated regularly as information was received from logging geology and alteration encountered within the RC chips.
As a result of this monitoring, CAV extended two previous RC holes and added additional drill metres to the McTavish East program to extend the mineralised structures down dip to a vertical depth of +200 metres.
The strike of the mineralised zone has increased to +320 metres with the system remaining open along strike and at depth.
Carnavale included three diamond pre-collars to the recent campaign, targeting depth extensions to the mineralised structures encountered in the recent drilling.
Next steps
The company will mobilise a diamond drilling rig to complete these tails when one is available.
A separate aircore drilling is planned to expand the high-grade McTavish East discovery along the 1-kilometre-long prospective structure between McTavish East and Champion South, during the current quarter.
