Digital 9 Infrastructure PLC (LSE:DGI9) (Digital 9 Infrastructure PLC (LSE:DGI9)) is to acquire Finnish data centre and cloud services platform Ficolo Oy for €135mln.
The acquisition is expected to complete later this year following regulatory approval.
Through its three campuses and 100% renewable energy, Ficolo will help Digital 9 expand in the Nordic data center market.
Digital 9's said it already has a strong position in the Nordic data center market, which this deal will strengthen.
Ficolo has a 24MW data center (which includes 8MW fully or partially fitted IT capacity) as well as expansion potential in its existing sites up to 90MW.
"Our data centre strategy is focused on identifying strategic locations that are suitable based on their level of connectivity and access to renewable energy.
“The acquisition of Ficolo, with its significant expansion potential, is another important step in D9's ambition to decarbonise the data centre industry," said Jack Waters, chair of Digital 9.
"Ficolo adds to our portfolio of Nordic data centres and represents some of the cleanest, lowest carbon footprint data centres globally."
Thor Johnsen, head of digital infrastructure at Triple Point Investment Management, said D9 now has one of the most comprehensive pan-European portfolios of green data centres.
"Transitioning data centre services to our green data centre portfolio is not just a question of improving sustainability, but also benefiting from lower cost and less volatile power prices.”
