Blackbird PLC (AIM:BIRD, OTCQX:BBRDF) says that 90% of video professionals are using some form of cloud-based editing, but the majority are yet to get the best of the cloud.
A survey conducted by Blackbird found that perceived benefits of using the cloud for video editing risked being undermined by widespread and inefficient methods of accessing content.
Some 65% of surveyed editors continue to move larger original high-res media files around the internet to support remote editing workflows, whilst others are using proxy files or remoting back to an edit workstation in a facility.
This is a problem that cloud-native editing platforms, like Blackbird's, are designed to solve in order to execute faster production workflows whilst giving the freedom to work from any location.
According to Blackbird, its cloud-native editing software transforms workflows to make them highly efficient - making the faster, less costly and helpful in the reduction of carbon emissions.
"This study is illuminating in that we can see that cloud tools are being widely used and having an impact, but true progress is hampered by deploying inefficient non-cloud native workflows," said chief executive Ian McDonough.
“These inefficiencies can be most evident in speed, cost and flexibility which also happen to be the most important factors in any cloud workflow, according to the data we have collected.
“The encouraging news is that highly optimized, energy and carbon-efficient cloud-native technologies exist to solve these issues."
Blackbird, which has developed a cloud-based video editing platform, said the survey questioned global video editors, producers, managers and prosumers and was carried out in partnership with Caretta Research.
