Seeing Machines Ltd (AIM:SEE, OTC:SEEMF) said it collaborated with leading automobile mirror provider Magna on a rear-view mirror that incorporates its Driver Monitoring System (DMS) technology.
The two companies produced a demonstrator model that combines a camera, electronics and interior mirror technology, using Seeing Machines enhanced FOVIO eDME (embedded Driver Monitoring Engine) algorithms and software.
Which provides the required qualities in terms of processing, heat dissipation, size and weight needed for a viable mirror-DMS combination, a statement said.
The demonstrator model combines Canada-based Magna's expertise in mirror technology, camera design, integration and packaging, with Seeing Machines experience in co-design, optical path, embedded processing, and computer-enhanced vision algorithms for DMS.
“Building a solution that brings a fully integrated DMS into the rear-view mirror responds directly to the increasingly difficult packaging environment for carmakers with expanding infotainment and advanced driver assistance electronics complexity and ever larger cockpit displays,” said Seeing Machines chief executive Paul McGlone.
“Working with Magna, a mobility technology company and leading supplier in mirrors and vision systems to the auto market, has brought two leading technologies together and we are looking forward to progressing opportunities to deliver this innovation to the industry more broadly.”
The location of the mirror is an effective cabin camera position and field of view for regulatory requirements in terms of both driver and occupant monitoring for many passenger vehicles, the AIM-listed company said.
