Westar Resources begins maiden RC drilling at Gidgee North VMS targets

“Our geophysics, geochemistry and litho-structural interpretations in conjunction with known mineralisation at Vela and the nearby Altair prospect all point towards the discovery potential of a new VMS base metals camp,” says MD.

Westar Resources Ltd (ASX:WSR) has begun a maiden reverse circulation (RC) program at Gidgee North Project in Western Australia’s Meekatharra-Sandstone region focused on 10 high priority volcanic massive sulphide targets.

These VMS base metal targets have been identified through a combination of exploration activities including airborne and ground geophysics, soil sampling and litho-structural interpretations.

Drilling & targeting overview

Westar, in collaboration with PGN Geoscience and Newexco, has advanced 10 compelling VMS targets at Gidgee North.

The data collected includes:

  • Recently derived conductors from airborne (SkyTEM) coupled with ground electromagnetic (FLEM) surveys;
  • Coincident gravity anomalies and magnetic anomalies;
  • Positive analysis of VMS pathfinder geochemistry;
  • Permissive host lithologies, structures and clustering of targets; and
  • Detailed review of drilling information at Vela prospect with significant copper-zinc intersections reported, including 8 metres at 1.12% copper from 48 metres and 4 metres at 1.65% copper from 48 metres.

Westar’s maiden RC drilling will initially test the 10 priority VMS targets, including Vela, Geo, NW Gossan, Moses, Discrete, Gumtree, Airstrip (two targets) and Breakaway Bore (two targets).

The goal of the project is to confirm a proof of concept with priority drilling targeting centre top modelled conductor plates.

Review of targets

Westar is progressing exploration plans over the >11-kilometre prospective greenstone strike extent between the Breakaway Bore and Griffin prospects, including infilling datasets for airborne, ground gravity and geochemistry.

The company has also initiated a desktop review of gold targets over the Gidgee North Project based on known mineralisation styles in the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt and the company’s extensive datasets.

Targets progressively evolved

Westar managing director Karl Jupp said, “Technical work completed by the Westar team over the last 12 months has progressively evolved these VMS targets to a confidence level where it’s simply time to drill.

“Our geophysics, geochemistry and litho-structural interpretations in conjunction with known mineralisation at Vela and the nearby Altair prospect all point towards the discovery potential of a new VMS base metals camp.”
