Boxpark agrees new Liverpool Street location as part of expansion plans

The new location is part of plans to expand the business following investment from private equity

Boxpark, self-dubbed the 'world’s first pop-up mall', is to open a new 17,000 square foot location by London's Liverpool Street station next year.

Dubbed the “BoxHall City”, the site will open in the summer of 2023 and will replace the existing Metropolitan Arcade, according to the Evening Standard.

The food and drinks vendor, which operates out of shipping containers, signed the 15-year lease with free holder Transport for London.

The new site will repurpose the existing building as opposed to building a new site out of containers.

“We are excited to repurpose the building and make it home to a premium food, beer and music hall – BoxHall, whilst retaining its character and feel,” said founder Roger Wade, quoted in the Evening Standard.

Currently, Boxpark has three locations across London in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley.

Expansion plans were outlined in its full-year results released earlier this year following investment from private equity firm Lloyds Development Capital (LDC).

LDC acquired a 51% stake for somewhere between £40mln-£50mln from Wade and Sir Charles Dunstone, co-founder of Carphone Warehouse and a major shareholder in Boxpark.

Boxpark at the time was believed to have raised £30mln to fund expansion in five new sites, including locations outside of the capital, with Bristol and northern cities targeted.
