Volt Resources Ltd (ASX:VRC) has furthered its commercialisation efforts with offtake and test work discussions with a US-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) cell developer engaged with both electric vehicle and stationary storage manufacturers.
Volt has so far received positive feedback for its battery anode product quality, with further samples requested to meet potential customers’ specific battery anode material (BAM) requirements.
The company’s proprietary BAM process flowsheet – developed by AETC – enables very high yields of about 70% purified spheroidal graphite produced from graphite feed.
Potential new BAM facility
“Volt is expanding its battery anode material offtake discussions in the United States in a fast-growing lithium-ion battery EV and energy storage market seeking local production capability,” Volt Resources managing director Trevor Matthews said.
“We are pleased with the test work results and cell developer feedback to date and look forward to progressing to offtake agreements.
“The potential battery anode product required to meet the cell developers demand will need a separate manufacturing facility in addition to the recently announced Energy Supply Developers’ Super Site BAM facility.”
Volt is considering developing the new BAM facility to service multiple potential customer requirements in addition to the Energy Supply Developer’s Super Site BAM facility.
The company expects the additional development of non-spherical graphite products for the alkaline and lead-acid battery markets will improve the economics of Volt’s planned BAM facilities in both the US and Europe.
