Castillo Copper’s drilling results point to extensive potential cobalt system within the Broken Hill Alliance Project

“The Fence Gossan Prospect assays are outstanding and provide the board with increased confidence there is potentially a significant underlying cobalt system within the BHA Project’s East Zone,” says CEO Dr Dennis Jensen.

Castillo Copper Ltd (LSE:CCZ, ASX:CCZ) has intersected highly anomalous cobalt at the Broken Hill Alliance (BHA) Project in New South Wales, further enhancing the potential for a large cobalt system within the defined target area.

The new assays are relatively shallow, ranging from the surface to 93 metres deep, and include several stand-out intercepts:

Fence Gossan prospect:

  • 23 metres at 660 parts per million (ppm) cobalt from 28 metres, including 3 metres at 1,300ppm from 37 metres;
  • 4 metres at 647ppm from 46 metres, including 1-metre at 1,700ppm from 48 metres;
  • 2 metres at 1,300ppm from 55 metres;
  • 4 metres at 647ppm from 46 metres, including 1-metre at 1,700ppm from 48 metres;
  • 3 metres at 620ppm from 52 metres, including 1-metre at 1,100ppm from 54 metres; and
  • 2 metres at 500ppm from 7 metres.

Ziggy’s Hill prospect:

  • 14 metres at 262ppm cobalt from 84 metres, including 1 metre at 600ppm from 93 metres;
  • 6 metres at 336ppm from 39 metres; and
  • 7 metres at 250ppm from 5 metres.

These results align with earlier reported assays from the Tors and Reef Tank prospects (15 metres at 760ppm cobalt from 67 metres, including 3 metres at 1,500ppm cobalt from 70 metres), and will be codified and incorporated into the block model and JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate.

“Assays are outstanding”

“The Fence Gossan Prospect assays are outstanding and provide the board with increased confidence there is potentially a significant underlying cobalt system within the BHA Project’s East Zone,” Castillo Copper CEO Dr Dennis Jensen said.

“In addition, the board looks forward to receiving the assays for more than 180 metres of diamond core from five drill holes, as it will clarify, firstly, the cobalt potential at The Sister prospect; and, secondly, if the north-west quadrant is prospective for cobalt, zinc and platinum group element (PGE) mineralisation.”

The diamond drill cores (five holes totalling more than 180 metres) has been dispatched to the laboratory to test for cobalt, zinc and PGEs.

Castillo believes assays relating to The Sisters are of particular note, as they will contribute to the block model and JORC mineral resource estimate.

The three remaining diamond drill cores are expected to provide a greater understanding of zinc and PGE mineralisation potential across the northwest part of the project tenure, particularly at Iron Blow.

Next steps

In NSW. Castillo will continue to work toward a mineral resource estimate for the BHA Project East Zone, while in Queensland, the company is moving to assay results from the Arya Prospect and formalise the timing for the next drilling campaign at the Big One Deposit.

Finally, in Zambia, CCZ is formulating inaugural drilling campaigns for Luanshya and Mkushi Projects.
