Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (AIM:CMCL, NYSE-A:CMCL) said production from its Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe hit a new record last quarter as it ramped up operations following the completion of a new central shaft.
The mine produced 18,515 ounces (oz) of gold in the three months to March 2022, a 40% increase from the first quarter a year ago,
Caledonia also reiterated it is on track for 73,000oz to 80,000oz in total in 2022.
Steve Curtis, chief executive, said: "The ramp-up in production towards our quarterly target of 20,000 ounces means that we are on track to meet our annual production target.
"As previously announced, very sadly during the quarter a fatal accident resulted in the death of a Blanket employee.
“We always take the safety of our employees very seriously and I join my colleagues in expressing our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased."
