Cellular Goods PLC (LSE:CBX) said its ‘ingestibles’ range consists of three of only 57 cannabidiol (CBD) products to be fully validated by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
It followed the suggestion over the weekend that Cellular may face the prospect of having its lines removed from shelves.
This was after its name did not appear on the FSA list of 3,500-plus CBD products with credible novel food applications.
However, it would seem the company committed itself to a higher standard of scrutiny via its manufacturer and supplier Chanelle McCoy Health (CMH).
Cellular pointed out CMH was one of the first companies to achieve validated status and is included in the list of approved products published by the FSA on March 31.
It added that its products underwent safety and toxicology studies as part of a complete data package that meets the FSA requirements to receive a validated application for novel foods.
“The FSA list …does not include Cellular Goods; however, this is not necessary in order for the products to remain on the market,” Cellular explained.
“The company fulfils FSA guidance as this is not a new product to market and all the FSA required details are clearly stated on the labelling such as product name (Pureis), legal address, product code and supplier which is the same as that of the validated CMH products featured on the FSA list.”
Cellular chief executive Anna Chokina said her business was "fully committed to providing premium quality ingestibles that have a traceable provenance and a data-led safety profile".
“Of the 3,536 products on the FSA list, the products we are selling are three of only 57 fully validated products,” she added.
