Corazon Mining Ltd (ASX:CZN) has kicked off drilling activity at its wholly-owned Lynn Lake Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Sulphide Project in Manitoba, Canada.
The base metals explorer is out to complete around 3,000 metres of core drilling across the Fraser Lake Complex (FLC), a large, metal-rich mafic intrusive body around 5 kilometres from the historical Lake Lynn Mining Centre.
Here, drilling is designed to test at least four targets, known as pipes, that are analogous to the massive sulphide deposits within the mining centre, which were previously mined over 24 years.
Drilling should conclude by the end of the June quarter, and results will be released as they become available.
Targeting the FLC
Corazon completed a detailed aerial gravity geophysical survey over the FLC in January 2022 that identified numerous dense, pipe-like bodies that have not been drill tested.
These features are also present within the magnetic data and appear to come together to form a large body at depth within the centre of the FLC.
The geophysical characteristics of the FLC pipes are most similar to the EL deposit, a massive sulphide body within the Mining Centre.
This deposit was only mined to 200 metres below surface, producing roughly 1.9 million tonnes of ore at 2.4% nickel and 1.15% copper.
As a result, the potential for massive sulphide deposits within the extremely mineralised FLC represents a priority exploration focus for Corazon.
The first drill hole
Corazon’s initial drill target will hone in on a conductor identified during an aerial electromagnetic survey.
The drill hole at this anomaly is designed to test the versatile time-domain electromagnetic (VTEM) conductor at surface and along the deepest part of the pipe some 500 metres below.
Notably, this target is adjacent to the Matrix Trend, where previous drilling has intersected strong nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide mineralisation.
