AdAlta secures patent for AD-214 i-body treatment from Indian Patent Office

AdAlta Ltd (ASX:1AD) has expanded its global patent portfolio with the grant of the first Indian patent relating to its lead program, AD-214, from the Indian Patent Office.

Patent Number 398125, entitled 'CXCR4 binding molecules', has an expiry date of January 8, 2036, and protects the i-body sequence used in AD-214, similar sequences, and pharmaceutical compositions and derivatives containing it.

The patent also protects the use of AD-214 in therapeutic and diagnostic applications, including the lead indication for which the treatment is being developed, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

AdAlta’s i-body platform is based on mimicking the shape of shark antibodies with human proteins. The i-body is much smaller than human antibodies, allowing it to bind and interact with more specific targets related to disease.

Patent opens large market

“India is a significant pharmaceutical market in its own right and is also a leading manufacturing location for biologic drugs and biosimilars (or generic biologics),” AdAlta CEO and managing director Dr Tim Oldham said.

“This patent expands the protected market for AD-214 and provides additional security for AD-214’s global supply chain.”

Patents are granted on a country-by-country basis and India is the sixth country to grant patent protection under this application, following Australia (two patents), US (two patents), Japan, China and Singapore.

AdAlta will continue to pursue claims in other major markets, including the European Union.
