British Airways and easyJet PLC (easyJet plc (LSE:EZJ)) cancelled another 100 flights between them on Wednesday due to Covid related staff shortages.
IAG-owned BA cancelled 78 flights from and to London's Heathrow Airport, while there were at least 30 cancellations by easyJet today, affecting routes in Amsterdam, Krakow, Bologna, and Berlin.
Airlines are dealing not only with too many sick workers due to the recent Covid spike, but also job cuts made earlier during the pandemic.
Passengers have also been affected by staff shortages at airports with some stuck in queues for hours, while others have been stranded in foreign cities due to flights landing too late to make connections.
A total of 1,000 flights have been cancelled across UK in the past week last week, with airlines warning the problems are set to continue in to the Easter holidays next week.
EasyJet has been the most visibly affected, cancelling 62 flights on Monday and at least 222 flights over the weekend.
Holidaymakers have complained bitterly about being stuck abroad without an explanation or an alternative route home from the airline.
British Airways cancelled 115 flights on Monday, although it's believed that only a few were last-minute cancellations due to staff shortages.
Aviation data firm Cirium says 1,143 UK flights were cancelled last week, versus just 197 over the same period in 2019.
This coming Easter school break is the first since the UK's Covid restrictions were lifted and airlines were banking on a bumper few days to help stabilise after their battering during the pandemic.
Shares in IAG, which also owns Iberia, Vueling and Aer Lingus, fell 3.8% to 134.4p while easyJet dropped 3.6% to 519.6p.
