Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) confirmed it was working on an edit button but downplayed speculation it was in response to Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) boss Elon Musk.
The social media giant tweeted yesterday it has been developing an edit feature since last year and plans to "test it within the coming months."
Musk, who became Twitter’s largest shareholder on Monday, asked his more than 80mln followers if they wanted the introduction of the edit feature.
But Twitter confirmed it was working on the feature for "for several months" and will test it within TwitterBlue Labs "to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible".
A day after Musk amassed a roughly 9% stake in Twitter, he was offered a seat on its board of directors.
An edit button is the most requested Twitter feature, allowing users to delete mistakes and typos.
The stock jumped as much 27% on Monday in response to Musk's stakebuilding.
