Wentworth's shares climb after growth in key metrics

A look at the major movers on the London market on Wednesday

Wentworth PLC's shares climbed 10%, changing hands at 24p in afternoon trading after the release of its final year results.

Revenues grew by 26% to US$23.8mln, with EBITDA growing 40% to US$13.6mln.

Net profit surged 79% to US$6.1mln, with a total dividend distribution in 2021 at 1.73p.

3.16pm: Lookers falls as investors latch onto outlook

Shares in Lookers PLC (LSE:LOOK), a UK automotive retail and service group, fell 5% to 91.2p despite mega growth in profit in its full-year preliminary results.

Profit before tax was up to £90mln, a major improvement on last year of £1.5mln.

However, investors have seemingly latched onto the outlook, which forecasts new car supplies to remain constrained due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage.

Headwinds from inflation and ongoing war have added “significant uncertainty” to the trading conditions faced by the group, although it remains confident in its outlook.

2.02pm: Cobra rises after positive drill results

Cobra Resources PLC (LSE:COBR) soared 19% as its strong start to the day continued into the afternoon on the back of strong buying interest.

The gold explorer announced positive results from its Wudinna Gold Project in Southern Australia, with all holes, at a 350 parts per million (PPM) total rare earth oxide (TREO) cut-off, producing significant intersections.

Meanwhile, at a 500 PPM TREO cut-off, 81% or 13 of the holes returned multiple substantial intersections per hole.

The group said it will publish outcomes from a further 104 holes at two different projects later this month.

On this news on Wednesday, the London Stock Exchange automated two price monitoring extensions.

12.59pm: Sosandar (AIM:SOS) surges after upping guidance once again

Shares in Sosandar (AIM:SOS) PLC climbed 18% to 28.3p after the women’s online fashion retailer upgraded its guidance once again after a second successive profitable quarter.

It now expects at least £29mln of revenue, up 138% year on year, and for underlying losses (EBITDA) to be reduced by more than 80% from the £2.9mln a year ago.

The company said there had been an earlier-than-normal take-up of spring and holiday ranges in the past quarter and said global supply chain challenges have had no material impact to date.

11.57am: Avon Protection plunges after profit warning

Avon Protection PLC (LSE:AVON) plunged 21%, with shares changing hands at 1,042p following its latest trading update.

The engineer and manufacturer of respiratory protection equipment told investors that profitability in the first half had been impacted by a “weaker than expected sales mix in the first half and additional manufacturing costs.”

While it expects to perform significantly better for the rest of the financial year, it forecasts that it will not offset the weakness experienced in the year to date, with full-year underlying earnings to be lower than previously expected.

10.51am: Caerus Minerals climbs after resource announcement

Caerus Mineral Resources PLC (LSE:CMRS) climbed 9% to 13.5p after announcing a maiden resource estimate for its Troulli joint venture project in Cyprus with Bezant Resources PLC (AIM:BZT).

The project has an estimated total hard rock resource of about 4.9 million tonnes (Mt) at 0.41% copper and 0.2 grammes a tonne (g/t) gold for 20,000t of copper metal and 31,000 ounces (oz) of gold, including 460t of copper and 7,700oz of gold at the higher indicated level.

"We are delighted with the maiden mineral resource estimate for Troulli that provides the joint venture with the foundation for the continued expansion of the resource as we drill out other known targets located along the 1.5km strike length between Troulli and Kokkinopetra,” said Caerus chief executive Martyn Churchouse.

9.40am: Ariana advances as Tavsan mine construction begin date approaches

Ariana Resources PLC (AIM:AAU) also moved higher, gaining 5% to 4p.

The company said its second gold mine in Turkey is “advancing at pace,” with investors told mine construction at Tavsan is expected to begin this quarter once permitting is finalised and bank finance approved.

"The Tavsan mine development programme is advancing at pace, and activities across the project are ramping up significantly as the project is progressing towards construction,” said managing director Dr Kerim Sener.
