Creo Medical Group PLC (AIM:CREO) said founder and chief technology officer Chris Hancock was awarded the inaugural Technology Innovator of the Year award at the European Microwave Week, a tradeshow dedicated to microwaves and radio frequency (RF).
He was awarded US$25,000 in prize money for the "first advanced energy multimodality instrument designed for flexible endoscopy using combined bipolar RF and microwave energy for advanced endoscopic procedures," the medical device company said in a statement.
The ceremony took place in London, with Hancock one of five candidates judged by a panel.
The award was launched by Junkosha last year and is designed to “recognise the innovative work of an individual or team working in the delivery of products used within interventional medical procedures or microwave/millimeter-wave technologies.”
Junkosha are “pioneers of sophisticated fluoropolymer application technologies” across the interventional medical and microwave and millimeter wave sectors.
Hancock has over 20-years experience in medical device development and holds a chair in the Medical Microwave Systems Research Group at Bangor University, among other academic positions.
He is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, an organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, according to its website.
“I was delighted to be nominated for this accolade, even more to win it and have the work we are doing at Creo Medical recognised in this way. It is a real honour,” said Hancock.
