Cruise ship travel health warnings issued by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been lifted.
Federal health officials first issued the warning in March 2020, providing consumers with information on cruise restrictions, grading systems and safety protocols.
Even so, the authority urged travellers to do their own risk assessment before cruising.
Cruise ship travel poses some risk of Covid-19 transmission, but travellers should always assess their own risk as they would in any other travel situation, the CDC said in a statement.
The move is another boost to major US cruise companies such as Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) PLC, Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line, which posted huge losses during thew Covid as cruise sailings were halted.
The cruise industry has also complained that the health agency has been discriminating against them compared to hotels and airlines who can operate with less or no restrictions.
