Mako Gold boosts Napié gold resource potential with more wide, high-grade Gogbala hits

Drilling is ongoing at Gogbala and a third drill rig is being mobilised and expected to arrive within two weeks to accelerate drilling prior to the maiden mineral resource estimate next quarter.

Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) has received further wide, high-grade results including 17 metres at 4.13 g/t gold from Gogbala Prospect that will continue to boost the size of the upcoming maiden mineral resource estimate (MRE) at the flagship Napié Project in Côte d’Ivoire.

Assays have been received from 39 holes in an extensional drilling program with 35 holes intersecting mineralisation described by Mako as being significant.

Wide, high-grade results

Highlights include:

  • 17 metres at 4.13 g/t gold from 57 metres, including 5 metres at 12.02 g/t from 62 metres;
  • 10 metres at 1.63 g/t from 69 metres and 10 metres at 3.35 g/t from 102 metres, including 1-metre at 22.29 g/t from 103 metres;
  • 2 metres at 12.89 g/t from 50 metres; and
  • 5 metres at 3.24 g/t from 118 metres, including 1-metre at 8.17 g/t from 119 metres.

Several holes host multiple gold mineralised intercepts confirming the presence of stacked lodes at Gogbala similar to the Tchaga deposit to the north, results from which will also be used for the MRE scheduled for next quarter.

“High success rate”

Mako’s managing director Peter Ledwidge said: “We are very pleased to be reporting on yet more good results from our extensional drilling program at the Gogbala Prospect.

"We are particularly pleased that 35 of 39 holes drilled returned significant gold results and that three of the four holes with no significant results (NSR) were RC pr-collars which we will diamond tail to reach the target depth.

"The high success rate of our drilling indicates that our exploration team has a thorough understanding of the deposit at Gogbala, which will contribute to resource growth both pre and post MRE.

"The ongoing positive drill results also confirms the prospectivity of the Gogbala Prospect and will add potential ounces to the upcoming maiden MRE scheduled for Q2-CY22."

Prospect location with current and planned drilling along the 30-kilometre-long Napié Fault.

Other results are:

  • 7 metres at 1.73 g/t gold from 146 metres, including 1-metre at 6.24 g/t from 151 metres;
  • 4 metres at 3.19 g/t from 76 metres and 3 metres at 3.20 g/t from 110 metres;
  • 5 metres at 1.29 g/t from 24 metres and 4 metres at 2.94 g/t from 117 metres, including 1-metre at 6.62 g/t from 119 metres;
  • 1-metre at 13.29 g/t from 150 metres;
  • 5 metres at 2.02 g/t from 74 metres with the hole ending in mineralisation and will be drilled deeper;
  • 4 metres at 2.64 g/t from 77 metres, including 1-metre at 5.35 g/t from 79 metres; and
  • 10 metres at 1.36 g/t from 49 metres, including 1-metre at 3.32 g/t from 55 metres and 1-metre at 4.75 g/t from 57 metres.

Upside potential

These new holes were drilled in the 2-kilometre-long high-priority area which is the focus of extensional drilling for the upcoming maiden MRE.

The extension of mineralisation along strike at shallow depths indicates upside for discovery of further mineralisation at depth.

Also, the multiple mineralised zones intersected confirms the similarities of the stacked lodes commonly intersected on the Tchaga Prospect and indicates the possibility of discovering further stacked zones with ongoing drilling, thereby increasing the overall width of mineralisation at Gogbala.

Third rig being mobilised

Mako is mobilising a third drill rig to Gogbala to accelerate drilling for the maiden MRE and this is expected to arrive on-site within two weeks. There is currently one RC rig and a DD rig operating around the clock.

The extra RC rig will target shallow extensional targets while the DD rig will drill deeper holes with the aim of increasing the resource at depth.
