Golden Shield Resources (CSE:GSRI) Inc has announced that it will restart its Phase 2 drill program at the Mazoa Hill prospect on the Marudi Mountain project in southwestern Guyana this week.
The junior company is planning to sink around 2,000 metres across six or seven holes on the target, one of eight targets on its flagship 5,457-hectare gold project.
Golden Shield said drilling will focus on expanding new areas of mineralization discovered outside of the existing historic resource.

The company also hopes to increase its understanding of the geometry of the high-grade zones encountered in the last phase of drilling, including an intersection of 50 metres grading 9.10 grams per ton (g/t) gold.
"Phase one drilling at Mazoa resulted in a reinterpretation of the geometry of the Quartz Metachert (QMC) unit that is the primary host for gold mineralization. This identified a southeast plunging open fold with continuous high-grade mineralization in the previously untested northeast dipping lower limb,” Dr Colin Porter, vice president, exploration said in a statement.
“Mineralization within the lower limb remains open downdip and along strike. The historical resource is restricted to the upper limb of the fold, which also plunges to the southeast, and remains open in that direction.”
The company is awaiting drill results from the Toucan Creek prospect, as well as trenching results from Toucan and three other prospects.
Vancouver-based Golden Shield is exploring three high-grade gold projects in Guyana: Marudi Mountain, Arakaka and Fish Creek.
