Aquis Exchange says current trading in line after sparkling 2021

The current year has started in an encouraging fashion, although management remains mindful of continued macroeconomic uncertainty and high levels of market volatility.

Aquis Exchange PLC (AIM:AQX) said 2021 revenue and profit surged, reflecting strong performances in each of the group's three business activities.

The exchange services group saw revenue rise 42% to £16.2mln from £11.4mln in 2020.

Pre-tax profit shot up 540% to £3.2mln, from £470,395 the previous year.

Cash and cash equivalents at the end of 2021 had risen to £14.0mln from £12.3mln a year earlier.

The group said its market share of all pan-European trading stood at 5.2% in the fourth quarter of 2021, up from 4.7% in the final quarter of 2020.

This reflected a number of factors including significant market volatility, an industry-wide move to dark trading venues and client trading strategies.

The current year has been encouraging, with the company trading in line with expectations. Although management said it remains mindful of continued macroeconomic uncertainty and high levels of market volatility.

As the company completed the dual listing of its shares on the Aquis Stock Exchange Growth Market , Aquis announced the proposed addition of two independent non-executive directors - Fields Wicker-Miurin and Dr Ruth Wandhöfer – plus Richard Fisher (acting as the chief financial officer) to the board.

“We have shown we are able to not only withstand periods of intense volatility and uncertainty but to continue growing and investing throughout them. This gives us great confidence going forward,” said Alasdair Haynes, the chief executive officer.

“Looking forward, heightened volatility and uncertainty stemming from the wider geo-political environment is set to continue, but nonetheless, we remain focused on the execution of our growth strategy and delivering increased value for our stakeholders. Trading so far has been in line with market expectations and we approach the remainder of the year with a positive outlook," he added.

Shares in Aquis on the LSE were trading 4% higher at 507.5p.
