Nuformix PLC (LSE:NFX) said its patent application for key asset NXP004 had progressed to the publication phase.
Following this, it was able to reveal that NXP004 is a novel, or new formulation of Olaparib, which is used to treat ovarian, breast and pancreatic cancers.
It is better known by its trade name, Lynparza, which is sold by AstraZeneca PLC (LSE:AZN) and last year brought in sales of US$2.75bn for the Anglo-Swedish giant, placing it firmly in the blockbuster category.
The patent application, which was made in September 2020, covers new olaparib oxalic acid cocrystals, their therapeutic uses and pharmaceutical compositions containing them.
A second patent application was filed last November.
“We believe NXP004 has significant potential and look forward to the granting of the patent in due course,” said Nuformix chairman Alastair Riddell.
“We are continuing to conduct further research and development activities on NXP004, as well as investigating future commercial opportunities.”
