Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has been sued by a Paris taxi driver just months after a Tesla Model 3 was involved in a fatal crash in Paris.
During a December 2021 accident, a Tesla driven by an off-duty taxi driver crashed through metal posts, pay-to-ride bikes, a glass recycling bin, and hit pedestrians and a van before finally coming to a halt, witnesses claimed.
Despite Tesla telling the French government that there was no immediate indication of a technical malfunction, the taxi firm G7 suspended the use of all Tesla Model 3.
On a street lined with bars, restaurants, and shops in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, three people were seriously injured and 17 others injured in the accident, reports Reuters.
According to Sarah Saldmann, the lawyer for the driver, a criminal complaint was filed against Tesla in Versailles alleging the car company was responsible for putting other people in danger.
Police say the taxi driver, who has not been identified, told them that the vehicle accelerated on its own and he couldn't get the brakes applied.
Sensors and cameras on Tesla's vehicles collect detailed data, which has been used to challenge claims that malfunctioning technology caused accidents in the past.
Tesla's case will now be decided by the Versailles public prosecutor's office.
