Scancell's new platform has generated five new assets targeting cancer; inks deal with fourth partner for new platform

In the same announcement, investors were told the company has inked an agreement with an unnamed ‘major European pharmaceuticals company’

Scancell Holdings PLC (AIM:SCLP, OTC:SCNLF) said it has generated five drug candidates targeting cancer from its fourth and latest proprietary platform – GlyMab.

The anti-glycan monoclonal antibodies (mAb) created will target specific tumours such as those associated with pancreatic, small cell lung, colorectal and gastric forms of the disease.

In the case of its SC2811 asset, the mAb will interact with a glycolipid identified on T cell stem cells.

Four of the five - SC129, SC27, SC134 and SC88 - have now been successfully humanised, which means they are ready for the next stage of development, Scancell said.

"We believe our proprietary GlyMab platform provides a powerful and versatile approach to generating novel antibody drug candidates that bind to sugar motifs, rather than peptide epitopes, found on the surface of glycosylated proteins and lipids that are implicated as drug targets in particular cancers and potentially other diseases,” added Scancell chief executive, Professor Lindy Durrant.

In the same announcement, investors were told the company has inked an agreement with an unnamed ‘major European pharmaceuticals company’.

The new partner, the fourth for the GlyMab platform, wants to ‘further evaluate one of the company's Glymab antibodies for the treatment of cancer’.

Scancell is a clinical-stage life sciences group that owns three other technologies that have generated drug candidates - Moditope and ImmunoBody, its most advanced platforms, are used to develop vaccines and AvidiMab is used to create antibodies.

In afternoon trade, the shares were changing hands for 11.38p, up 1.1%.
