Geopacific Resources hits further high-grade gold at PNG project

“The continued trend of positive results across the drilling campaign highlights the potential that exists across Woodlark Island to expand our mineral resources,” says CEO.

Geopacific Resources Ltd (ASX:GPR) has delivered further drilling success from grade control and resource extension drilling programs at its Woodlark Gold Project in Papua New Guinea.

The company has observed a continuing trend of positive shallow high-grade results received from grade control drilling at the Kulumadau pit including:

  • 37 metres at 5.59 g/t gold (207-gram metres) from 8 metres;
  • 26 metres at 7.38 g/t (192-gram metres) from 34 metres and 9 metres at 20.2 g/t (182-gram metres) from 20 metres; and
  • 9 metres at 15.5 g/t (140-gram metres) from surface.

Further, Geopacific has also received encouraging results in seven holes from resource extension drilling at Busai with strong intersections including:

  • 7 metres at 4.59 g/t gold from 41 metres and 7 metres at 1.70 g/t from 50 metres; and
  • 9 metres at 1.24 g/t from 58 metres and 10 metres at 1.31 g/t from 71 metres.

Looking ahead, a further 25 grade-control holes and five resource extension holes from the Kulumadau deposit have been completed with samples at the laboratory awaiting assays.

“Expand mineral resources”

Geopacific CEO Tim Richards said: “The grade control drilling campaign continues to deliver encouraging results.

“We have now received assays from 34 grade control holes with a substantial number reporting significant high-grade intercepts, supporting our view that there is considerable upside potential within the existing pit shells.

“The further seven resource extension drill holes returned favourable results that highlight the broader exploration potential across the mining leases.

“The continued trend of positive results across the drilling campaign highlights the potential that exists across Woodlark Island to expand our mineral resources.

“I look forward to updating the market in coming periods as we continue to receive further grade control and step-out drilling results.”

Drill program

Geopacific’s ongoing drilling program is focused on Mining Lease exploration, targeting significant near-pit potential including high-grade prospective areas within the Mining Lease with visible gold at the surface.

The results from grade control drilling at Kulumadau pit indicate a series of near-surface high gram-metre intersections.

In addition, the resource extension drilling results to date from Kulumadau and Busai reinforce the potential for pit extension, with all three planned pits at the project open along strike and at depth.

Forward plan

Exploration drilling to the north and east of the current Kulumadau resource started in February 2022 and is ongoing with 14 holes from this program awaiting assays

A reconciliation of the grade control model to the mineral resource will commence upon receipt of all outstanding samples.

Furthermore, the drilling campaign for the remainder of the first half of 2022 will focus on Woodlark’s significant near-pit exploration potential within the existing mineral lease
