Critical Resources Ltd (ASX:CRR) has revealed visual massive and semi-massive base metal sulphides in drill core from the Gibsons target within the Halls Peak Project in northern New South Wales, indicating the potential extent of the Halls Peak mineralised system.
The visual sulphide mineralisation in hole 07A extended 6.6 metres in width at a depth of 98-104.6 metres downhole, in a step-out area previously undrilled or tested.
Examination of previously announced drill holes 09 and 11A also detected mineralisation, this time at previously unknown depths. Assays from holes 11A, 02, 02A and 04 are being processed at the ALS laboratory in Brisbane.
Sulphide intersections
Hole 07A of the Gibsons open cut mine workings target hosts chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena mineralisation at varying concentrations:
- 97-98 metres - Brecciated cherty pelite with disseminated pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralisation;
- 98-99.9 metres - Strongly mineralised chert breccia, sphalerite dominant – lesser galena, minor chalcopyrite. Banded and massive in places;
- 99.9-101.4 metres - Vuggy, intensely silicified chert breccia, pyritic, with disseminations and stockwork veins of chalcopyrite, about 1% chalcopyrite;
- 101.4-102.5 metres - Chert breccia containing abundant sphalerite, lesser galena and minor chalcopyrite. The sulphides are crudely banded but disseminated throughout the rock; and
- 102.5-104.6 metres - As above but chalcopyrite mineralisation dominant, lesser sphalerite and galena.
The abundances of the primary base metals are typically sphalerite-dominant with lesser galena and minor chalcopyrite. In addition to zinc, sphalerite is an ore of cadmium, gallium, germanium and indium and is sometimes associated with lead and copper mineralisation.
CRR cautions that visual assessment of drill core is no substitute for laboratory analysis and can only offer qualitative general estimates. Quantitative assays will be completed by the lab in Brisbane.
