Archer Materials Ltd (ASX:AXE, OTC:ARRXF) continues to grow its team after launching a recruitment drive and bringing a leading quantum expert on board.
Associate Professor Matthew Broome is one of the world-leading specialists joining Archer in a technology leadership role and he will work with the team to advance the company’s flagship 12CQ quantum computing chip.
The chip represents the world’s first qubit processor technology — an innovation that could lead to quantum-computing powered mobile devices down the line.
Outside the increase in personnel, Archer continues to work on its technology development, international collaborations and access to deep tech infrastructure.
The tech stock has a range of advanced semiconductor devices in the works, including processor chips that are relevant to quantum computing.
Recruitment drive
Archer began its recruitment drive in early 2022 and has been approved by the Australian Department of Home Affairs as a standard business sponsor, broadening the scope of potential talent it can pursue by allowing it to sponsor international workers.
The company has received more than 650 applications for current advertised roles, including quantum hardware engineers, materials chemists and nanofabrication engineers.
Successful candidates will join Archer in the coming months to execute the company’s technology development plans.
Archer’s newest tech leader, Associate Professor Broome, joins Archer with more than 15 years’ experience in building quantum computers.
He recently moved from the University of Warwick in the UK, where he led a research team designing and fabricating next-generation semiconductor devices for a range of quantum applications.
In 2017, Broome was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship, which he undertook at the world-class Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen.
Access and infrastructure
Outside the job market, Archer has been broadening its access and infrastructure horizons.
Recently, it gained access to multi-million-dollar instruments at the Australian Nanofabrication Facility — a milestone that expands on its operation with the Research and Prototyping Foundry in Sydney.
Archer researchers have also gained access to advanced instrumentation for biological analysis at Westmead Institute of Medical Research.
Here, the team is preparing for automated testing across various other genomic analysis facilities in Sydney as part of the biochip development.
Meanwhile, the tech stock continues to collaborate with Swiss tech institute EPFL, working towards a multi-year co-development in building quantum devices.
Archer and EPFL have also begun preliminary studies related to the 12CQ chip development with renowned quantum experts and colleagues at universities in Canada, which Archer visited in late 2021.
It’s who you know
A big part of Archer’s strategy has been networking, broadening its corporate ecosystem and improving its commercial outreach.
The tech stock wants to have skin in the game, and it’s been on the road wherever possible to showcase its innovations to those in the know.
Last month, Archer staff attended the Quantum Australia conference, which included more than 800 participants and 100-plus quantum experts, including the Chief Scientist of Australia and Archer’s collaborators from IBM and the global IBM Quantum Network.
The company is also playing a crucial role in shaping Australia’s National Quantum Strategy — spearheaded by Australia’s top scientist.
In June, Archer will take its tech to the largest in-person quantum technology conference, Quantum.Tech, in Boston, US.
From there, it’s on to San Diego’s Bio international conference — an event Archer considers one of the most important on the biotech industry’s calendar.
