Cooper Metals Ltd (ASX:CPM) has confirmed the presence of coherent gold anomalies through initial regional soil sampling at the Gooroo Gold Project in Western Australia.
Three main areas of broad gold anomalism were identified, coincident with what Cooper Metals believe are favourable structural trap sites, such as the nose of the Gullewa syncline and regional faults traversing the greenstone belt of the project.
These geological structures are known to be important for gold deposits elsewhere along the same greenstone belt.
Anomalies confirm prospectivity
“The initial regional soil sampling program at Gooroo has already defined new coherent gold anomalism over underexplored greenstones, confirming the high prospectivity of the Gooroo Project for Archean gold mineralisation,” Cooper Metals managing director Ian Warland said.
“Encouragingly, some of the gold anomalism is proximal to significant regional faults interpreted from the aeromagnetics.
“Elsewhere in the Gullewa greenstone belt several historical gold occurrences are proximal to north-easterly trending structures, which may have been important plumbing systems during the formation of these deposits.
“The company has planned follow-up soil sampling to infill and extend the geochemical coverage in the project area.
“This important work will be underway shortly and I look forward to updating the market as results come to hand.”
Gullewa Greenstone belt
Cooper is targeting Orogenic gold and copper-gold (Deflector style) mineralisation in the highly prospective Gullewa Greenstone Belt in the Murchison Province of the Yilgarn Craton.
The Gooroo Project is on a portion of the southern limb of the Gullewa syncline, a poorly exposed part of the greenstone belt with limited historical exploration.
Cooper’s regional geochemical program is the most extensive one to date in this area, with surface sampling returning up to 12 parts per billion gold, while the gold anomalism remains open to the southeast.
The company is now planning to undertake an additional infill geochemical survey for Gooroo as soon as possible in order to design a drill program to test the source of the gold anomalism.
