Guild Esports rockets higher as corporate wheeler-dealers join board

Mike Edwards and Brian Stockbridge have been nominated as non-execs

Guild Esports has announced a shuffling of the board ahead of its AGM two veterans of building and selling business joining as non-execs.

Mike Edwards and Brian Stockbridge have been nominated as replacements for Simon Walters, Chris Sullivan and Andrew Drake who are to step down as non-executive directors at the close of the meeting.

Edwards has built and sold several companies in a 20year career, including AreaConnect.com, a consumer content company acquired by NASDAQ listed Marchex; Wyley Interactive, a mobile game engagement platform acquired by NASDAQ listed Zynga; Creative Labs, a start-up foundry that builds consumer technology companies and Leaf Mobile, a game studio listed on the TSX.

Brian Stockbridge is a corporate finance veteran and currently chief executive of First Sentinel Corporate Finance.

Guild, which famously boasts David Beckham as a shareholder, also said that James Savage has resigned as the company's executive finance director for personal reasons with immediate effect and a search is underway for a permanent replacement.

On conclusion of the AGM and assuming the changes are approved, the board will comprise executive director (CEO) Kal Hourd, and non-executive directors Derek Lew, Mike Edwards, Brian Stockbridge and David Gardner.

In a trading update, Guild added that it has performed in line with management expectations since January.

“The company's new business pipeline remains strong and several potentially significant sponsorship deals with tier 1 brands continue to be at advanced stages of negotiations and are progressing as expected,” it said.

“Guild's professional esports teams continue to perform well and the Company most recently secured first place in the prestigious Fortnite Champion Series ('FNCS') EU Final on 6 March 2022.”

Shares rocketed 17% higher to 2.03p.
