Fitbit (NYSE:FIT) has recalled its Ionic smartwatches and told owners of the model to stop wearing them after receiving over a hundred complaints.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission in a statement, customers have claimed that the batteries would overheat and cause burns.
The commission added that users should “immediately stop using the recalled Ionic smartwatches” and contact Fitbit (NYSE:FIT) for a refund worth US$299, as well as a 40% discount on a new purchase.
There has been a total of 115 reports that the battery in the watch would overheat in the US, and 59 in the rest of the world.
120 have also claimed they have sustained burn injuries because of the watches, with some reporting third-degree burns, according to the Independent.
Fitbit’s website advises that the watches should be taken off and no longer used, even if they appear to be working normally.
The model was sold between 2017 and 2021, with the company stopping production in 2020.
